Dear adopted Black girl – a love letter for April.

Girl. We made it to April.
We. Are. Here.

Can we just take a second to soak that in?
You and me—we made it.

Remember back in January when you weren’t even sure you’d make it through the week, let alone the year? But here you are. Still breathing. Still showing up. Still becoming.

This month, may the worries you’re holding onto… release you.

May you finally believe that the mistakes of your birth parents—or even your adoptive ones—are not yours to carry.
It’s time to put that cross down. Like, right now.

Have you ever wondered what it would feel like to be lighter?
To breathe without tension?
To not wake up at 2 a.m. with your chest tight and your mind racing?

That mix of emotions we never asked for—they bleed into our everyday lives. And honestly?
The world is already heavy enough.
Between wild politics, broken systems, and family dynamics that leave us aching… it can be hard to find the good.

But sis, let me remind you of one thing:
You’re still here.

You’ve got air in your lungs. That alone is a miracle.

Oh, to breathe and be you is a gift.
And maybe—just maybe—this is the month we start acting like it.

Even if you’ve been conditioned to treat yourself like a burden, a project, or an afterthought…
What if today, we shift?
What if you started seeing yourself the way you deserve to be seen?

Say this with me:

I am living proof of worthiness.
My purpose doesn’t need to be understood by anyone but me.

– I will love myself through every season—yes, even the messy ones.
– I’m willing to learn how to love me, and I’m brave enough to ask for help.
– I deserve beautiful things.
– I embody discipline—not perfection, but commitment.
– I haven’t lost anything that was truly mine.
– I have the power to restore my peace and protect my serenity.

And if loving yourself out loud makes other people uncomfortable?
Let them be uncomfortable.
Love yourself in full, in bold, in color.

Because you are a gift.
And this month—we act like it.

From my room with love,
Teish
