6 Ways I’m Amplifying Adoptee Awareness Month

  1. Stretching Season — What’s Next for Adopted Black Girl

Lately, I’ve been feeling stuck. Have you? It’s like the change of seasons; there’s an unmistakable shift happening all around us. That feeling can be disconcerting, so I decided to sit with it.

I’ve come to realize that I’m not emotionally and spiritually stuck—I need to stretch. Stretch into new spaces, explore new ideas, and embrace new levels of visibility. This type of stretch means I can’t hold back anymore, and you can’t either.

I may feel constrained in my body, but this stretch is not just physical; it’s about opening myself up to new possibilities and experiences. This month, I’ll be reminding us all to stretch, both literally and metaphorically. You might get sick of me repeating this theme, but it’s essential for all of us to be open and willing to expand our horizons.

2. Connecting with other adopted Black girls/women (early 30s)

Since relocating to Boston two years ago, I’ve been longing to connect with other adoptees—to build a vibrant, creative, healing community that serves as a reminder of our shared light and resilience. This season, I’m thrilled to share that that vision is coming alive! If you’re in the Boston area and resonate with this journey, please reach out—let’s meet up and enjoy each other’s company. No mask needed, just yourself.

3. Writing More, Sharing More

Y’all have been asking for more blog content, and I heard you loud and clear. For this month, Adopted Black Girl will be ramping up our publishing schedule to twice a week! I’m also excited to open the blog up for more co-hosting opportunities. Are you a writer? Do you want to publish but scared to? Let me know by sending me an email.

4. Totes and Crewnecks

Yes, it’s happening! I am beyond excited to announce that tote bags and crewnecks are officially launching soon, with pre-orders opening this Saturday. There’s a limited supply, so make sure to tell your cousins and friends!

While “adoptee” isn’t a visible label that everyone can spot, our message deserves the visibility it needs. Want a sneak peek? Just see below for a glimpse of what’s to come—it’s a way for us to showcase our pride and foster conversations.

5. Events on the Horizon

Listen closely; this might sound a little crazy—but I’m doing it! I’m in the process of planning the Adopted Black Girl Portrait Day—fingers crossed we secure the space for this incredible event. Spots will be limited, so stay tuned! I’m also organizing a Plant Workshop tailored specifically for Adopted Black Girls and a Virtual Stretch Session designed for Black women who are adoptees. All of this is happening this month, and it’s going to be intimate, intentional, meaningful, and full of love. I believe that coming together in these types of settings can nourish our souls and create lasting bonds.

6. Morning & Kin

Two Fridays this month, we’re bringing back Coffee & Kinship Live—get ready for two uplifting mornings where we will connect and discuss what’s real and what’s next for us. Grab your favorite mug, log in, and let’s talk about the pressing topics on our minds. I’ll be going live right here on my website, creating a space for authenticity without the social noise.

This month isn’t just about awareness—and I hope to bring joy, understanding, and create intentional air to breathe through it all. We get a chance redefine what this month means. I’m learning the importance of not holding so much in my body anymore. It’s about exhaling, being present, living in the moment, and stretching ourselves to embrace every aspect of who we are.

If you’re part of this community—if you’ve ever felt unseen but are still in search of light—let’s amplify adoptee awareness month together. Let’s support one another, share our journeys, and celebrate the unique narratives that define us. This stretch is about all of us flourishing.

from my writing corner with love,

Teish
