Adopted Black Girl

surgery + friend support

Well, I had surgery, and the orders are strict—rest and recover. Given this surgery was four years in the making and ya girl is on the road to smell again, I’m actually following these orders.

Three days post-op, and to be honest, I haven’t lifted a finger due to my support system. I’m blessed because of that, I’m great for that, and most importantly, I’m so blessed that I could ask for help and be open to receiving it.

Sometimes you don’t think you’ll get the help if you ask, but there are folks willing to help you and …they want to. How are you strengthening those friendships? Those connections?

How are you saying, “Hey, here’s what I have going on.”

For us, community may look different, and so can trust, but it’s a beautiful thing once you let community lift you because you know they got you.

I’m here to remind you to ask for the help you need. You have people that will stand firm and won’t flake.

My friend said to me “just because you can do it alone, doesn’t mean you should.”

Take that in and let it sit. ^

Okay, I’m logging off now, but if I’m called to write more, I will.

From my healing couch with love,

Teish
